Abstract: The research on metal chalcogenides has a vast and eminent history, whereas the study on metal lanthanides chemistry had not gained focus until the end of the nineteenth century. The main reasons were the absence of convenient synthetic methods for the synthesis of heavy metal lanthanides. In this report, one-step hydrothermal synthesis of metal chalcogenides is discussed. The importance of various carbon materials such as graphene oxide, functionalized carbon nanotubes and graphene also detailed discussed in this report. The easily restacking nature and poor electrochemical stability of the pristine metal chalcogenides and lanthanides are further improved by hybrids of various carbon hybrids. The energy storage and conversion application have been tested using electrochemical measurements such as cyclic voltammetry, Galvanostatic charge discharge and Nyquist Plots. Based on the experimental results, the challenges present in this method are studied. Furthermore, the potential practical applications of the synthesized selenides towards energy storage towards supercapacitor are also discussed.
