dc.description.abstract | The ππ-differential production cross sections of the prompt charmed mesons π·0, π·+, π·*+, and π·+ π and their charge conjugate in the rapidity interval β0.96<π¦cms<0.04 were measured in πβPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy βπ πβ’π=5.02ββTeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The nuclear modification factor π πβ’Pb, quantifying the π·-meson yield in πβPb collisions relative to the yield in πβ’π collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, is compatible within the 15%β20% uncertainties with unity in the transverse momentum interval 1<ππ<24ββGeV/π. No significant difference among the π πβ’Pb of the four π·-meson species is observed. The results are described within uncertainties by theoretical calculations that include initial-state effects. The measurement adds experimental evidence that the modification of the momentum spectrum of π· mesons observed in Pb-Pb collisions with respect to πβ’π collisions is due to strong final-state effects induced by hot partonic matter. | en_US |
